Thad Pickard

“Each morning when I first enter the room I turn the lights on, pause for a moment, and smile. I can’t believe this is my classroom and I’m an official teacher. It’s the greatest feeling in the world!”

Thad Pickard,
7th Grade Teacher
Canton Middle School

For Beginning Teachers
The primary mission of the Center for the Support of Beginning Teachers is to support the professional development of beginning teachers and their transition to the classroom. Professional development opportunities for first-year teachers include the bi-annual WCU Beginning Teacher Induction Symposium and CSBT Online Support Program.

Workshops and institutes for teachers in years 2-5 also are provided and online resources are available for all teachers new to the profession.

The Center also publishes a series of Tips for New Teachers. These booklets are a collection of tips submitted by first-year teachers participating in the CSBT Online Support Program and build on Charlotte Danielson's Framework for Teaching (2007) as an organizing structure. You may download a copy by clicking below (pdf).

We invite you to contact the CSBT office with your questions or with suggestions for additional ways we can support you in your initial years in the profession.
