In support of the University, the Kneedler Child Development center is committed to providing high quality child care for the children of students, faculty and staff of WCU. It is dedicated to providing affordable and accessible child care for families within our diverse community. In addition, the center serves as a teaching site for observations, practicum experiences, research and internships for students at WCU. While supporting the academic programs of the university, the center encourages opportunities for personal, social and intellectual development.
Adult Learners Floor
Located on Harrill first floor, for students who are 24 years or older, or have returned to school after working full-time. For further information, contact Residential Living at (828) 227-7303.
Overnight Stays in Residence Halls
The University recognizes that commuters may have a difficult time abiding by the class attendance policy during severe weather and has set aside a limited number of rooms for temporary housing during such times. Sheets, pillows, pillowcases, a blanket, towel and washcloth will be provided. A room key and student entry key also will be provided. Students are responsible for returning the linens and keys. All residence hall policies apply to students during their stay. Remember this is only for emergency housing due to dangerous (icy/snow) road conditions! Contact the Department of Residential Living at (828) 227-7303 to request a room.
Off-Campus Housing
Students who plan to live off campus make their own living arrangements. It is a good idea to inspect the facilities before making any housing agreement and to obtain a written contract outlining the responsibilities of the renter and the landlord. Students who move from the residence halls to off-campus locations must officially move out of their residence hall rooms and are subject to a breach of contract fee. Students living off campus are governed by the rules and regulations of the university while they are on campus. The Residential Living Department maintains a limited number of postings about off-campus housing opportunities.
Shuttle Service
CAT-TRAN is the campus transportation system. Shuttles pass every stop at least once every 15 minutes and pass the Dodson stop (CAT-TRAN CENTRAL) every 1-10 minutes. Shuttles operate from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM Monday-Friday, move-in day through May Commencement. No Holiday or weekend operation is provided.
